Truly You

Remember when you were a kid and running around at recess was the best part of your day? Eating lunch in the cafeteria with all of your friends was the most exciting social event? Rushing off of the bus and into your house was such a freeing feeling? Everything was so simple. Everything was so innocent. You didn’t have a care in the world about how you were perceived and didn’t let other people influence your actions. You did what you wanted because it was something that you enjoyed and were passionate about. It didn’t matter if you could run the fastest; you were going to play tag. It didn’t matter if you could double dutch; you were going to jump rope. It didn’t matter if you weren’t best friends with someone; you were going to hang out.

Why can’t we still do that? It pains me to look around and know that people are changing themselves. Whether they are changing to fit what they think is the cool thing or for other peoples’ standards, they are changing themselves from the people that they really are. They aren’t doing what they love or being truly themselves because they are worried about how they are viewed. That’s not fair. That’s not fair to the carefree child who’s expression was so organically developed. That’s not fair to the amazing person who learned from everything life threw at her so far. That’s not fair to you.

You deserve to act like yourself. You deserve to express the true you in and out everyday. Whoever you are, I want you to know that you are loved. You are an amazing person and that is solely because of your personality. You grew up to be the person that you are right now, so don’t change that just because you want to fit a particular mold. Take any negative thoughts that you have about yourself and use them to push forward to reach your goals. You are loved. You are amazing. You are yourself and no one can do that better than you.

  1. Nicely written! I really like your view! Too bad that today’s society doesn’t encourage this kind of thing anymore. We got too addicted to technology and work, so we forgot how to live… happily.
